When comparing WAEPA, GEBA, SAMBA and FEGLI, first identify the exact coverage being discussed. A familiar association name or a monthly price does not show how an insured amount, premium or continuation condition may change over time.
Use the source that governs each option
OPM's FEGLI overview distinguishes Basic coverage from the optional forms of coverage. Record the actual elections before comparing that program with another proposal. A single option's amount is not necessarily the person's total FEGLI coverage.
The public WAEPA FAQ, GEBA group-life FAQ and SAMBA term-life FAQ provide starting points for questions. Obtain the current applicable certificate, schedule and accepted coverage details from the relevant organization. This page does not reproduce their rates, promise eligibility or rank their products.
| Comparison field | What to request for every option | Why a blank matters |
|---|---|---|
| Exact coverage | Program or product, insured person and amount | A name alone leaves the benefit undefined |
| Eligibility and acceptance | Membership and application requirements; actual decision | An illustration may not be issued coverage |
| Current cost | Billing period and included options | Monthly and payroll figures need consistent periods |
| Future changes | Applicable premium and benefit schedules | Today's price may not describe later coverage |
| Duration and continuation | Retirement, job-change and termination provisions | Portability needs its actual conditions |
| Family coverage | Each person's coverage and dependencies | Household amounts may follow different rules |
| Limitations | Exclusions and relevant claim provisions | A headline benefit omits conditions |
| Existing protection | What would change or be lost | A comparison should reveal replacement consequences |
Match dates and coverage before comparing cost
Write the date of every proposal and the facts it assumes. Compare the same insured person, amount, period and selected benefits. If one figure describes current coverage and another is only an application illustration, label that difference clearly.
An invented comparison may show a lower current bill beside a different future benefit amount. The next question is how both schedules change at the dates important to the household. Declaring one option cheaper before obtaining those schedules would leave part of the comparison unresolved.
Keep the next step specific
Ask each organization for the missing terms and confirm them against the current documents. A licensed professional can explain the exact proposal and any replacement requirements. Keep existing coverage decisions separate from research: an application or quote does not confirm new coverage is in force.
Use the education and advice worksheet to identify the role of the person helping you. This comparison does not imply that Premier Protection represents the named organizations or has a government affiliation, and it recommends no cancellation or purchase.
Make the comparison answer the same question
An invented comparison places one proposed benefit for the next ten years beside another illustration for twenty years. Even if the benefit amounts initially match, the time periods do not. Ask for the same age, benefit, coverage period and relevant assumptions before treating the prices as comparable.
Add a column for the source document and its date. A public association FAQ can identify questions, while an actual certificate, policy or program document governs the offered coverage. Preserve any condition that remains unresolved instead of simplifying it into a yes-or-no comparison.
Does association membership mean insurance is already in force?
Confirm the specific program's eligibility, application, acceptance and effective-date requirements. Membership and accepted coverage should have separate status entries. Do not count an application or proposed amount as protection already available to the household.
Can I compare only the starting premium?
Review the premium schedule and coverage duration as well as the initial figure. Ask what can change over time, whether benefit amounts change and which document explains the terms. A lower starting payment does not, by itself, establish a lower long-term cost or a suitable policy.
Does this guide endorse WAEPA, GEBA or SAMBA?
It provides comparison criteria and links to the organizations' own information. It does not rank those programs, promise eligibility or savings, quote their current premiums, or state that Premier Protection represents them. Use the actual program documents and an appropriately qualified professional for the proposal being considered.
